On 2 June 2021, 21 young people from Westminster aged 16 to 24 gathered at City Hall to take part in our first Kickstart Insight Day. This was an opportunity for them to learn what skills, experience, and opportunities they could gain through the various kickstart roles at the council.
One of the attendees, Paige, succeeded in her application to create engaging videos as part of our new TikTok team with the support of Employment Relationship Manager (ERM) Michaella Jackson. The launch of this team is an exciting opportunity for the council to connect with our younger residents and wider audiences.
Before landing this role, Paige had a hard time selecting the best kickstart position for her chosen career path. This is where ERM Michaella stepped in to guide Paige on how the prospective roles would influence her future in the job market. Together they also discussed her ambitions, passions, and aspirations which helped her to make a more informed decision.
Outside of offering recruitment support, Michaella’s role also extends to the provision of pastoral care and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of clients. On the Kickstart Insight Day, Paige was anxious about the lateral flow test, which was a prerequisite for attendance. Michaella provided reassurance to relieve Paige of her worries and ensured the addition of a bright and talented young resident into the organisation.
About the experience, Paige said:
"When I was first contacted by Michaella concerning the Kickstart Insight Day, I was hesitant to partake in the lateral flow tests as I was nervous about getting it done for the Insight Day. Michaella showed complete understanding to my predicament and assured me there was nothing to be worried about. She remained in frequent contact with me, keeping tabs on how I found the Insight event day, to all the interviews I had attended after, and even called me at the end of my very first day at work."
